The wave energy test area is located in the Port of Arinaga, in an area exposed to waves in front of the port breakwaters.
This area will allow the wave converter prototypes to be taken from a TRL - 5 (functional verification and scale prototypes) to a TRL - 7 (demonstrator in real operating conditions).
The main characteristics of this test area are the following:
Surface area: 788 m2 . Distance from the coast: 140 m. Depth: 16-17 m. The platform is equipped with electrical connection points in medium voltage, equipment for measuring the renewable resource and metoceanic conditions, and the necessary bathymetric surveys have been carried out to facilitate rapid testing of marine solutions.
500 kW submarine cable in medium voltage (20 kV) equipped with fiber optics that connects the test area with the dock. Connection buoys to facilitate the attachment of prototypes ( plug & play ). Doppler enabled for measuring wave conditions in the analyzed area. This doppler is also considered a key element in providing measurements of the metoceanic conditions which have a particular influence on the maintenance of safe and stable conditions on the floating platform.
