The wave energy test area is located in an area exposed to waves in front of the port breakwaters at the Reina Sofia Quay in the Port of La Luz and Las Palmas.
This area will allow the wave converters prototypes to be taken from a TRL - 5 (functional verification and scale prototypes) to a TRL - 7 (demonstrator in real operating conditions).
The main characteristics of this test area are the following:
Surface area: 801 m2 . Distance from the coast: 215 m. Depth: 47-48 m. The platform is equipped with electrical connection points in low voltage, equipment for measuring the renewable resource and metoceanic conditions, and the necessary bathymetric surveys have been carried out to facilitate rapid testing of marine solutions.
2 submarine cables of 250 kW power each in low voltage (three-phase) equipped with fiber optics to connect the platform with the dock. Connection buoys to facilitate the attachment of prototypes ( plug & play ). Doppler enabled for measuring wave conditions in the analyzed area. This doppler is also considered a key element in providing measurements of the metoceanic conditions which have a particular influence on the maintenance of safe and stable conditions on the floating platform. Bathymetric survey of the area. Auxiliary infrastructures.
